四海为家, literally “to make the four seas one’s home,” means to be at home everywhere. It’s sometimes translated as “to settle down wherever one goes,” “cosmopolitanism,” or “to be a wanderer.” “Four seas as home” is my own rather clumsy approximation of this elegant four-word phrase.
The name seemed appropriate for a blog recording the thoughts of someone with no fixed home (or, to look at it another way, with so many places to call home). Since all major blog hosting sites are currently blocked in mainland China, I finally broke down and registered my very own url. Assuming I stay away from a few keywords, this should keep my clear of the Great Firewall of China and allow me to post freely.
I plan on using this space to share anything I find interesting. Since I’m currently living in Wuhan, to start out with many of those things are likely to be related to China, but random topics may appear. Stay tuned for more!
